In the mid-twentieth century, a synthetic polymer called polyvinyl alcohol was developed, which was used for many years in medical, industrial, automotive, packaging, and food products. Starting in 2018, the production of a water-soluble film using the same polymer began in Italy, and in 2019, the first commercial office was opened in Panama due to its strategic geographical location.

In March of that same year, under the Green Team® brand, the corporation was established, offering the widest range and coverage of water-soluble products. The material was patented with the name Polivitalio®.

Polivitalio® is made from Polyvinyl Alcohols, and its raw material is acetic acid, commonly known as apple cider vinegar. It is non-toxic and has been proven to biodegrade in the same amount of time as an orange peel in organic waste, which is 22 days according to a Bio-ingestion study conducted by the University of Pisa and the Wageningen University & Research in Gelderland, the Netherlands.

Furthermore, it is certified as compostable under the European Standard EN-13432 by DIN-CERTCO (Berlin, Germany) with registration number 7P0910, one of the most renowned certifications in the world that defines the criteria for a material to be considered biodegradable or compostable. This certification also accredits Polivitalio® for meeting the American (ASTM) standards for biodegradation in freshwater, seawater, soil, anaerobic conditions in high-solids waste, as well as accelerated testing in a landfill.

The water biodegradation of Polivitalio® is surprisingly faster than that of cellulose paper, according to the parameters of the ISO FDIS-14852 study, which determines aerobic biodegradation of plastic materials in aqueous environments in the laboratory.

It is free from heavy metals, as confirmed by tests conducted by the National Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM), making it a non-toxic material suitable for contact with food. It is also free from plastics such as low-density polyethylene (LDPE), high-density polyethylene (HDPE), polypropylene (PP), and polyethylene terephthalate (PET), according to Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy studies conducted by the Bioqueme Lab in Italy. This is particularly relevant because it does not leave microplastics when biodegrading since there are no plastics in its composition.

You can find all the certifications and laboratory tests for Polivitalio® here.

Polivitalio® has undergone antistatic tests, confirming that it does not attract dust or contamination, making it an ideal material for packaging and wrapping products as it maintains its cleanliness more easily.

Currently, Green Team México® manufactures Polivitalio® bags under its bax® brand, including T-shirt bags, rolls, boutique-style bags, and bags for pet waste, as well as heat-shrinkable films for packaging. These products possess all the benefits of biodegradation, compostability, water solubility, antistatic properties, and environmental compatibility, catering to consumer habits and waste disposal. Without compromising any of the three pillars of sustainability: economy, environment, and society.
