Introducing bax® shrink film, the only biodegradable, compostable, water-soluble film that’s 4 times stronger than its conventional plastic counterpart. It’s now available in Mexico in the form of rolls that are fully compatible with conventional heat tunnels – machines used for shrink wrapping. Let’s explore all the details and discover the reasons behind its ecological uniqueness.

Firstly, what is it made of?

It’s made of Polivitalio®, a material produced from acetic acid, commonly known as apple cider vinegar. This raw material gives rise to a Non-Acetate Polyvinyl Alcohol, a family of materials that have been in existence for a long time and have been widely used in the automotive, food, and medical industries. The nature of its raw material places this material at a remarkable advantage over any produced in the past, as it uses zero trees and zero water as raw materials. While these are renewable resources, the byproducts or waste generated by their use in production often entail significant environmental and monetary costs. In contrast, the byproduct of Polivitalio® is water vapor.

How is it produced?

Despite being a synthetic product – that is, man-made – its patented industrial process relies on the best of science and engineering. It uses minimal energy, generates zero toxic waste, and delivers the highest quality. This is particularly important right now, as using less energy results in a lower environmental impact, aligning more closely with the goals of sustainable production, which is a priority in the face of the climate crisis our planet is experiencing.

Does bax® shrink film really withstand more weight than conventional film?

bax® shrink film has a proven puncture strength 3.5 to 4 times higher than its counterparts like Low-Density Polyethylene (LDPE) or High-Density Polyethylene (HDPE). This significant advantage means that less material is used for packaging products, resulting in a reduction in the amount of shrink film used.

What makes it truly compostable?

bax® shrink film holds the European Compost certification from DIN-CERTCO, with registration number 7P0910. It’s important to note that this certification is one of the most prestigious in the industry. Moreover, thanks to its biodegradability, it can be composted both industrially and at home. This makes it compostable through the simplest composting practices, a remarkable difference in the materials industry since most others require specific additives and industrial processes involving temperature, material movement, and humidity.

How long does it take to biodegrade?

When we talk about biodegradation, the time and conditions are very important. This new technology, while biodegradable, achieves complete biodegradation in the same time (in the presence of organic waste) that an orange peel can, and the time it takes is just 22 days.

What if it ends up in the water for some reason?

bax® shrink film made of Polivitalio® has a biodegradation rate equal to or even faster than paper – cellulose – which typically takes around 45 days. Laboratory studies have shown that Polivitalio® can biodegrade over 80% within 40 days.

Additionally, bax® shrink film, having the DIN CERTCO composting certification, certifies its biodegradation in soil, freshwater, seawater, anaerobic digestion in high solid waste content, as well as in landfills, according to laboratory processes following the American Society for Testing and Materials (ASTM) standards.

What is its presence in Mexico?

Given the increasing focus on Extended Responsibility in the international and national schemes, such as in Quintana Roo, where there is already a Circular Economy and Extended Responsibility law, bax® shrink film has carved its path as the only direct solution for beverage marketers and producers, dramatically reducing the costs associated with conventional plastic shrink film in terms of collection, treatment, recycling, and consumer information.

Why switch to bax® shrink film?

Because its application is exactly the same as conventional shrink film. It is what the industry calls a drop-in solution, meaning nothing else needs to be changed, whether in programming, machinery, or temperature, to fulfill the same purpose. In other words, a roll of 100% eco-friendly bax® shrink film is used in the same way as a roll of conventional shrink film. It requires zero investment while delivering all the benefits that companies seeking better sustainability and environmental care require.

Who manufactures it?

Green Team México® is the company that markets and creates the first and only 100% eco-friendly shrink film in the country, tailored to industry needs.

There’s no doubt that bax® shrink film is not only the solution humanity needs to secure its future but also its present. It seamlessly fits into its industrial processes, available here.
