According to the census conducted by INEGI in 2020, 57 out of every 100 Mexican households have a pet, of which around 19 million are dogs. Millions of bags are discarded daily, taking at least 500 years to degrade, causing fatal damage to the environment. Most bags on the market claim to be eco-friendly, biodegradable, or even ‘oxobiodegradable,’ but with so many options, which pet bag truly does not pollute?

The Problem

First, we must understand that most bags offered in the Mexican market claim to be eco-friendly, ‘eco-friendly,’ ‘biodegradable,’ and ‘compostable.’ These words are often printed on the packaging but rarely have any substantiation, certification, or laboratory testing to prove such properties.

A prime example of this is bags claiming to be ‘oxobiodegradable’ or ‘oxodegradable,’ terms used by the conventional petroleum-based plastic industry or natural sources like avocado or corn. These bags only fragment into very small, imperceptible pieces called microplastics. The correct term for them is oxo-fragmentable bags, as they never biodegrade. They are banned in countries such as China, Spain, Italy, and France.

What Is the Solution?

bax® PUPO is the first and only pet bag made of Polivitalio®, a material that has been proven to biodegrade in 22 days in the presence of organic waste—the same time and conditions it takes for a banana or orange peel to biodegrade. It’s an immediate solution to the pollution problem caused by bags containing the waste of over 80% of pets in Mexico.

bax® PUPO is also biodegradable in soil (90 days), freshwater, seawater (45 days), anaerobic digestion in high-solid waste content, as well as in landfills according to laboratory processes following the standards of the American Society for Testing and Materials (ASTM), validated through DIN CERTCO composting certification according to the European Standard EN 13432 with registration number 7P0910.

bax® PUPO biodegrades without leaving microplastics, as it contains no conventional plastic in its composition. This has been confirmed by FTIR studies conducted by BioCheme Lab in Italy and the European Chemicals Agency (ECHA).

What Is the Carbon Footprint of bax® PUPO?

It uses zero water and zero trees as raw materials, so its only waste is water vapor that doesn’t pollute. This makes it a low-carbon footprint manufacturing process.

bax® PUPO Approved by SEDEMA

bax® PUPO also has registration number KAB-09-SEDEMA-CBO-004 granted by the Secretary of the Environment (SEDEMA), authorizing its commercialization, distribution, and sale in accordance with the Solid Waste Law of Mexico City.

Where Can I Buy bax® PUPO?

They will be available in just a few days in the official Green Team México® store on Mercado Libre and Amazon.

With every action, we can make a significant change for the future of our next generations.
